250 evacuated after ammonia leak in Vantaa
Local residents were evacuated on Monday morning following an ammonia leak from the HK Ruokatalo food plant in the Pakkala district of Vantaa, just north of Helsinki.
According to the Central Uusimaa Rescue Services Department, the situation was quickly put under control.
The leak from the factory's gas system was detected soon after 9am, when the factory's staff and neighbours were removed from the area.
Rescue chief Jorma Alho said that the leak was halted shortly after noon, and that no-one was injured.
