8-year-old kidnapped in Kotka recovered
An 8-year-old girl was abducted into a van in Tavastila, Kotka on Tuesday afternoon. A few hours later, the girl was found physically unharmed about 15 kilometres from her home place. A man suspected of the crime has been apprehended by the police.
The abduction took place around 12.50 in the afternoon, on Tavastilantie road in Tavastila, Kotka, as the girl was on her way home from school. The location is near the girl’s home.
Neighbours witnessed the event, and said the van was grey, with a lot of text on its sides.
“The girl was on a bicycle. Both the girl and the bicycle were taken into the van”, Police Inspector Juha Junkkari reported after the abduction.
The girl had a mobile phone with her, and managed to stay in contact with her mother and emergency exchange after being kidnapped.
She was found around 16.15 pm in nature, about 15 kilometres away from her home.
Later, around 6 pm, the police apprehended a man from Kotka, who is suspected of kidnapping the girl.
The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
