An Air France flight bound for Tokyo, Japan on Sunday was apparently forced to dump a large part of its fuel payload in the Baltic Sea near Finland’s Åland Islands before returning to Paris.

The Airbus 380 aircraft dumped some 90,000 litres of fuel near the Åland Islands before turning around, writes the Swedish daily Aftonbladet.

The plane—the largest passenger aircraft in the world—apparently experienced technical problems with a door.

The flight landed safely in Paris after the fuel dump.

The Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi said on Monday that the fuel has evaporated before hitting the surface and posed no danger to the environment.
