Black Cobra human smuggling case in court

A human trafficking case linked to the notorious Black Cobra gang went to trial in Turku on Wednesday. Four defendants are suspected of smuggling a man from Iran into Finland via Sweden.

The accused face up to six years in prison for trying to bring the man into the country illegally. In October 2010 Turku border police intercepted the man, who was travelling without a passport or visa.

The prosecutor says the case is serious as those involved have ties to the Black Cobra, an immigrant street gang active in the Nordics.

The trial is being held in Finnish and Swedish, with translation into Arabic, Farsi and Kurdish.
