Busy summer for rescue workers on inland waters

More people than usual required assistance on waters in Central Finland, says the local rescue department.

“We’ve had a great deal of water rescue operations,” says on-duty fire chief Juha Hård from the Central Finland rescue department.

According to Hård, between the beginning of June and early August the department had to deal with 36 tasks related to rescue on waters.

“I could almost say that this is a little more than has been the case in previous years,” he points out.

Few serious incidents occurred, according to Hård, but many people required assistance including boat towing services.

The number of such problems indicates that a lot of people are poorly prepared and insufficiently experienced to set out on the water, Hård says.
