Deal on Finnair redundancy support packages

Finnair and the Pro Trade union have reached agreement on support packages for technical and salaried staffs facing redundancy. The deal was brokered by National Conciliator Esa Lonka on Thursday.

The dispute led to wildcat strike action last week by the airline’s technical staff. However, the dispute was brought to a swift close after 24 hours following a ruling by the Helsinki District Court. This decision included the threat of a 2.8 million euro fine to the union.

Thursday’s agreement on redundancy support packages ends the dispute between the union and management. It also sidesteps a complex legal wrangle over the court’s decision last week.
