The Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of London’s Philarmonia Orchestra was torchbearer number 40 in the 2012 Torch Relay. Salonen ran some 300 metres through the City of London, before handing the flame over to the next torchbearer.

Carried by 8,000 people, the Olympic flame has travelled nearly 13,000 kilometres around the globe in the past few months.

Another Finn, ice hockey player Saku Koivu, carried the Olympic torch on Tuesday.
