Feels like autumn weather

Meteorologists are forecasting anything but summery conditions this week. Yle’s Anne Borgström says Finland can expect heavy rains and autumnal temperatures.

Many vacationers in Finland were flummoxed by the damp and bleak conditions that came with the beginning of July. The trend is set to continue—with heavy rain, possible flooding and temperatures more reminiscent of the middle of autumn than late summer.

According to Yle meteorologist Anne Borgström, a band of rain is expected to move across Finland at the beginning of the week. However temperatures in the south Monday will remain around 20 degrees Celsius. In the north, they will hover around ten degrees.

Conditions will however cool from Tuesday onwards as showers spread across the country, particularly in Kainuu and northern Ostrobothnia. Borgström said Finns should brace for especially heavy downpours, with possible thundershowers.

The unstable conditions could well extend into next weekend, dragging temperatures down further, Borgström warned. Temperatures on Thursday and Friday will bring autumn weather to mind.

“In Lapland temperatures will be around 10 degrees, and in the south 15. These are the average temperatures for the middle of September,” Borgström added.
