Finland has granted more refugees asylum this spring than in years past, though the number of applications is dwindling—down by nearly 50 percent compared to the same January-April period last year. In the first four months of this year 125 people were provided asylum out of 795 applicants.

The number of Syrians and Serbs seeking asylum is growing while fewer Somalis are arriving in Finland as refugees. Most asylum applications were, however, submitted by Iraqis and Russians.
