Fill 'er up: Finns guzzle cheap Russian gas

High fuel prices are driving Finns to fill up in Russia, where gasoline is half price compared to Finland.

Lines on the Russian border can stretch up to one kilometre.

Officials say Finnish traffic at the Imatra border crossing is up by around 20 percent. Every day some one thousand Finns cross the border, which is about 200 more than previously.

While the distance from central Imatra to the nearest Russian pump in Svetogorsk is just five kilometres, bargain hunters may be stuck in border queues for hours. But the long waits haven't seemed to deter Finns' thirst for affordable fuel.
