Finance Ministry proposes budget cut for National Gallery
A 500,000 euro cut in next year’s purchasing funds for the National Gallery is being proposed in budgetary plans drawn up by the Ministry of Finance.
Just 200,000 euros would be left to procure works of art for the Ateneum Art Museum, the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum.
Kiasma director Pirkko Siitari described the proposal as the tearing down of contemporary art.
Writing in her blog, Siitari noted that acquiring art for the museum’s collection was now in danger if the ministry’s proposal went ahead.
Kiasma usually receives around 450,000 euros annually for art purchases.
