Tuesday marks the 150 year anniversary of the birth of one of Finland’s best known artists, Helene Schjerfbeck. Several events have been organized in recognition of the jubilee year, including exhibitions dedicated to her memory.

More than 300 of the artist’s works will be on display at Helsinki’s Ateneum art museum until mid-October. The collection includes works in the artist's pared-down 1880s modernist style.

Schjerfbeck’s works will also be on display in Tammisaari, where she spent several years following the death of her mother, and where a permanent exhibition dedicated to the artist opened this year.

Finland will also commemorate Schjerfbeck’s life and works by minting a limited-edition two-euro coin bearing her portrait.
