Finnair confirms job cuts for nearly 300

The redundancies will affect mechanical and technical services workers and will begin from mid-September. Other workers will be transferred to the buyer of the airline’s technical services operations.

Finnair announced Wednesday that it had confirmed nearly 300 job redundancies in its mechanical and technical services division, following the sale of its technical services operations to the Swiss SR Technics.

In April the airline announced the proposed redundancies as part of its agreement to sell its technical services operations. The retrenchments are to take effect from mid-September, when 280 workers will lose their jobs, while 75 will transfer to SR Technics.

The deal with SR Technics means that Finnair will mothball most of its proprietary mechanical and technical services operations. However some operations will be maintained to ensure the efficiency of some line services.

Finnair said redundant employees will be compensated by way of severance packages and job resettlement programmes.
