Finnair, Ryanair Passengers Suffer Long Holiday Delays

Many Finnair and Ryanair passengers saw their holiday plans wrecked by serious flight delays over Christmas.

A Ryanair flight on Christmas Day from Tampere to Dublin took off nearly eight hours late due to a technical problem. A replacement plane had to be flown in from Ireland to pick up the passengers.

Meanwhile a Finnair flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, arrived in Helsinki on Christmas Eve, more than 24 hours late. Because of bad weather, the plane landed in Bangor, Maine, on the way instead of Halifax, Canada, as scheduled. The plane could not then take off until the crew had a legally-mandated rest period. All passengers with connecting domestic flights were able to reach their destinations on Christmas Eve, some by ground transport.

The storm in Canada also delayed the return of a Finnair flight from Sharm el-Sheikh, as the airline's Leisure routes to Florida and Egypt use the same planes. That flight also arrived on Christmas Eve, some 12 hours late.
