The winning play, Continuous Growth, is billed as “a comedy about productivity”. It tells the story of Andy, a Scotsman who “loses his job, starts a business and brings down the entire world economy”.

The Finnish production received The Scotsman Fringe First Award, given out by a team of critics from Scotland’s national broadsheet.

The production is directed by Aleksis Meaney and adapted for staging in Scotland by Catherine Grosvenor.

Originally written in Finnish by Esa Leskinen and Sami Keski-Vähälä, the play was subsequently translated into English by Nely Keinänen.

The production has an all-Scottish cast. This is the third time a Finnish act has taken part in the Edinburgh Fringe.

Continuous Growth will run at the festival until August 27.

The world’s biggest international art festival, this year the Edinburgh Fringe showcases over 2,500 performances from more than 60 countries.
