Finnish swimmer wins Olympic heat and breaks own record

Swimmer Matias Koski was in peak shape in the men’s 200 meters freestyle heats, but his performance failed to earn him a place in the semi-final.

Koski first dipped into the Olympic pool on Saturday, but only came in 21st in the 400 meters freestyle heats.

On Sunday morning, the result was better: Koski won his 200 meters freestyle heat. With a time of 1:49.84, Koski also broke his own record.

However, the Finnish swimmer’s 1st place and time were not enough to lift him into the top-16 and continue onto the semifinals. Koski came in 31st in the heats.

The most important Olympic competition for Koski is the men's 1,500 meters freestyle.
