Finns Mostly Against Gay Adoptions

Finns are reluctant to allow gay couples the right to adopt a child. A survey shows about two in three Finns are opposed to male couples adopting children.

A survey by the newspaper Aamulehti found that 44 percent of Finns would accept women couples adopting children, while 32 percent would allow male couples the same opportunity.

Most opposed were people over 50 years old.

In-vitro fertilisation treatment for single women was more acceptable to the general public.

None of those interviewed opposed the adoption rights of traditional married couples. Nine out of ten also approve common-law partners adopting kids.

Taloustutkimus interviewed more than 1,000 Finns for the survey.
