Finns' party to expel councillor in new hate speech row

Satakunta police have opened an investigation into comments made on Facebook by a local councillor from the Finns' party. The councillor is suspected of incitement against an ethnic group after he praised the man who shot two people with an immigrant background at a pizzeria in Oulu on Saturday.

One of the victims died, and the other was seriously injured. The shooter turned the gun on himself and died later of his injuries in hospital.

The Finns' party leader, Timo Soini, says that comments praising the shooter are completely unacceptable. The councillor is likely to be expelled after a meeting of the party's board.

“It’s clear that this kind of thing cannot be tolerated,” said Soini.
