First Olympic silver for Finland

Finland's Tuuli Petäjä has taken the silver medal in the women’s RS-X windsurfing competition.

The 28-year-old architecture student gained Finland’s first Olympic medal in the Weymouth regatta on Tuesday.

The gold went to Marina Alabau Neira of Spain while Poland’s Zofia Noceti-Klepacka took the bronze.

Petäjä was assured of a place in the Weymouth Olympic regatta following early World and European championship successes in 2011 and 2012.

Petäjä came in sixteenth place in the Beijing Olympics.

In addition to windsurfing, Tuuli Petäjä played ice hockey for eight years and is also an accomplished gymnast.
