FM Stubb Attends Afghanistan Conference Tuesday

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will participate in an international conference on Afghanistan in The Hague on Tuesday.

The meeting, attended by the foreign ministers of 80 states and heads of international organisations, will focus on the current political, security and development issues in Afghanistan.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Foreign Minister Maxine Verhagen of the Netherlands will chair the conference.

Finland’s Role in Afghan Development

This year Finland is channelling some 10 million euros in development assistance to Afghanistan. Finland has also sent some 100 soldiers to the country as part of ISAF (NATO’s International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan). This summer Finland will deploy a temporary detachment of 100 soldiers to the country to support presidential and provincial council elections.

Nordic walking, the sport of walking briskly with bespoke ski poles, has been shown to be several times more effective for improving physical endurance than fitness training in a gym and its health benefits have been noted extensively. Even so, the Finnish invention is largely recommended as a fitness option to only females and the elderly at present.
