H1N1 Virus Mutation Found in Finland

A mutation of the H1N1 swine flu virus reported in Norway was also discovered in Finland some months ago. The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) says the mutated virus was found in a patient in July.

According to THL, such a mutation is a normal in influenza viruses. Those found in Norway or elsewhere do not affect the common properties of the virus nor the means to combat it. This includes the effectiveness of vaccinations against the virus, the THL says

Delay in Vaccinations

Planned vaccinations against the swine flu virus have had to be cancelled in several municipalities due to a lack of vaccine. On Monday, Finland received only one-third of 300,000 promised vaccine doses this week. THL says the remainder will arrive later this week.
