Women are more opposed to prostitution than men, with 60 percent in favour of a total ban on commercial sex. Forty percent of men held the same opinion.

Young adults under 25 and people over 50 are most in favour of criminalising paid sex in Finland. Members of the Christian Democrats, Swedish People’s and Centre parties are more inclined to make paying for sex illegal than supporters of the Finns Party and Left Alliance.

In Finland prostitution itself is not a crime, but the purchase of sexual services through a procurer or from someone who is the victim human trafficking is a punishable offence.

Pollster Taloustutkimus phoned up around 1,000 people between July and August for the survey. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
