Halonen visits the U.S.

President Tarja Halonen is travelling to the United States on Monday. During her five-day visit, Halonen will participate in the 15th anniversary of The Council of Women World Leaders, as well as chairing a UN panel on Global Sustainability.

President Halonen is the Chair of The Council of Women World Leaders (CWWL). She will travel to Washington D.C., where the Council is celebrating its 15th anniversary with events including a working dinner and public forum on women’s leadership.



Halonen will continue her trip to New York, where she is to co-chair the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability on Wednesday and Thursday. The other chair of the panel is President of the Republic of South-Africa Jacob Zuma.

The New York meeting aims to finalise the final report of the panel on Global sustainability, to be handed in to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.
