Hyssälä: Cuts Loom in Specialist Hospital Services

Cuts in specialist hospital services could be on the cards in the next few years according to Minister of Health and Social Services Liisa Hyssälä.

She told the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat that state funding would not be enough, for example, to maintain heart surgery facilities in as many places as now. But the Minister did not see any opportunities to cut back on health centre services.

She said, however, that changes in healthcare are set to happen naturally as thousands of people retire during the next decade.

The renewal of the hospital system is to help those municipalities in financial difficulties. Basic healthcare services are included in the review.
