The final figures from the championships show a healthy profit from this spring’s tournament, which was split between Helsinki and the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

The championships made a profit of 8.2 million euros after expenses, money that the association says will now help develop the sport at grassroots level.

A meeting of the association’s board unanimously decided to put 70 percent of the money into junior coaching at club level, 20 percent into separate support for juniors, and 10 percent into developing operational structures.

The tournament was hit by controversy over high ticket prices, with seats at Finland matches priced at 155 euros until the association climbed down and offered discounts for the less attractive games against France and Kazakhstan.

Finland will also co-host next year’s tournament with Sweden.
