Ilta Sanomat: Russian General's comments boost support for NATO
A survey carried out by the tabloid Ilta Sanomat indicates an increase in favour for Finnish membership of NATO following recent comments made by a senior Russian general.
General Nikolai Makarov created a stir earlier this month when he criticised Finnish cooperation with NATO, saying it posed a threat to Russia.
According to the survey, just under one-fifth of respondents said their attitude towards NATO had become more favourable as a result of the General’s comments.
Less than ten percent said their view had become less favourable towards Finnish NATO membership.
Two-thirds of those asked, however, stated their viewpoint had not changed.
