Katainen has been in Spain to clarify Finland’s policy on the eurozone crisis. Along with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, he re-affirmed Finland’s commitment to the euro.

“The euro is very important to Finland, not some kind of temporary experiment,” said Katainen at a press conference held with Rajoy in Madrid on Tuesday.

Katainen added that strengthening the euro will take both common European measures and national efforts.
