KSML: Soini turns up eurozone heat with referendum demand

The Finns Party chair Timo Soini wants future eurozone bailouts to be put to a referendum.

Soini made the suggestion in an interview with the regional daily Keskisuomalainen on Monday. Although he would not advocate a referendum on the Spanish support package expected to be agreed this week, any future decisions should in Soini’s view be put to a vote.

”If all the indebted countries are going to stay in the euro, then the Spanish support package will not be the last,” Soini told the paper.

The idea of a referendum was also mentioned by another of the party’s MPs at the weekend.
