Last of Fortum outages being fixed

The Fortum power utility said Friday that electricity would be restored during the day to the last of its customers who suffered outages in the wake of recent storms. Some households have been without electricity supplies since the 26th of December. Fortum said repair work was going according to plan on Friday.

However, there are still around 400 Fortum customers in the area of Salo without power. Nevertheless, Fortum believes power will be reconnected later on Friday.

Some 50 customers of the Vattenfall utility in Pirkanmaa and Häme were also without electricity on Friday. These, however, were all new outages possibly caused by trees or branches damaged in earlier storms only now falling across power lines.

Fortum estimates the cost of repairing downed power lines and providing compensation to customers will cost the company in the region of 35 million euros.
