Lohtaja Residents to Boil Drinking Water

Drinking water must be boiled in the Alaviirre district of Lohtaja, in western Finland, until at least the middle of next week.

Last Friday, faecal bacteria were found in a sample taken from the water. Cleaning of the water distribution system began on Thursday and is to be completed by Saturday. The results of a water quality test will be available sometime next week.

A damaged well cover is thought to be the reason for the contamination. Some 200 households are affected by the polluted water.
