Mormon Church Fire Investigation Continues

Police have released one woman and two men who were questioned about a fire at the Mormon Church in Tampere. The church was destroyed in the blaze on Saturday. Officials are trying to determine what role, if any, the three may have played in the fire. They are also tracking other leads. No one was injured in the blaze, but damages are expected to reach three to four million euros. The church was not insured. The rescue department continued its extinguishing work until Saturday evening. A total of 17 fire units and 70 fire-fighters worked to put out the blaze. Police in Tampere say they are trying to determine whether this fire is related to other recent fires. They've asked for anyone with information to phone police at 050 3954177 or 071 8745800. Church Members Saddened "It is certainly sad to see. The building was constructed voluntarily by many members. All their work has gone up in smoke," said Markku Partanen, a spokesperson for the Mormon Church. Partnanen said he doesn't believe the fire was an act against the Mormon Church. However he said it is unfortunate that something like this would happen in present-day Finland. The Mormon congregation was not threatened before the fire broke out. YLE
