The annual fair, which begins on Friday, showcases ecologically sustainable living and energy-efficient homes in Vuores, a Tampere suburb.

The fair, located in Vuores some seven kilometres from Tampere city centre, exhibits technologies that may reshape the future of recycling. For example, all waste from houses in the fair area will be carried to a collection point through an underground pipe system, eliminating the need for garbage trucks.

The area’s residents are also encouraged to grow their own vegetables in communal plots. These gardens are watered by a rain water collection system.

Visitors can take a look at 39 homes that include detached houses and apartments. The fair is open to the public from July 13 to August 12 every day between 10am and 6pm. Information about ticket fees and other details is available in English here.
