Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen says his party should support its own presidential candidate. He also said he's prepared to stand for nomination if the Centre Party asks him.

He told the newspaper Karjala that although the party hasn't made any decisions yet, he would agree to run if asked to.

However, Vanhanen did have one condition. He wants the election campaign to be limited to just two months or so. This way the party could concentrate first on the responsibilities of the prime minister?s office.

Vanhanen added that the discussions for any possible candidate won't take place until next summer, and a candidate will be named in the fall of 2005.
