The number of arrests made for drunken behaviour has declined particularly in southern Finland.

YLE Morning TV reported on Friday an 11% drop in arrests in Helsinki in June compared to a year ago. Arrests were down by 5.5% in southern Finland.

The drop in liquor prices just over a year ago increased the number of police dententions.

Visits to the drunk tank are still on the rise in Tampere and Oulu. During the spring, Oulu registered a 20% rise in offences for drunkenness.

Police in Helsinki feel the number of arrests have dropped in recent years due to a greater public acceptance of drunkenness.
