A Finnish scientist for the Institute of Marine Research doesn't believe that the melting of glaciers in Greenland will affect Finland very much.

Jari Haapala says his research indicates that the current rate of melting also won't affect the Gulf Stream, which is critical for maintaining Finland's environment.

A recent study published in Science magazine says that glaciers are now falling apart twice as fast as they did five years ago. However, Haapala says that this would only seriously affect Finnish coastal areas if the entire glaciers melted, which most scientists consider extremely unlikely.

Some scientists say, however, that global warming could in fact have the opposite effect, making the ice caps grow.
