Finland Sees Increase in Immigrants

Finland had a net gain of 3,300 citizens from EU countries. Immigration from other EU countries to Finland has increased since 1997. However emigration from Finland to other EU countries has remained steady. Increase in number of births A total of 58,840 children were born in Finland last year, over 1,000 more than the previous year, according to the central statistics agency. The average age for women giving birth was 30 years. The average age for first-time mothers rose slightly to 28 last year. The number of babies who died before the age of one was particularly low last year, at 167. The number has not been this low since Finland gained independence in 1917. YLE
