A victim of human trafficking has for the first time received a Finnish residency permit, according to the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper.

However because of safety concerns surrounding the individual, Immigration officials will only add that the victim was in a particularly vulnerable position.

They are also considering granting permits in the cases of two other possible victims of trafficking.

Changes to the Aliens Act last August made it possible for victims of human trafficking, such as persons engaged in forced labour, to seek residence permits to escape their situations.
