Malicious Programmes Spreading through PDF-Files

A new wave of malicious computer programming is using PDF-files to take advantage of older versions of Adobe Acrobat. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has warned against opening any PDF-attachments from unknown e-mail senders.

The computer security company F-Secure says an unknown user has already sent tens of thousands of the contaminated files. The e-mails contain no text, but opening the PDF attachment uploads a malicious programme from a Malaysian server.

So far they've identified the following attachments as malicious: report.pdf, debt.2007.pdf, and overdraft.2007.10.26.pdf.

F-Secure says it's concerned about the increasing use of PDF files to spread viruses and Trojan horses, because most firewalls still let these types of files through.
