Over 26,000 people moved to Finland from abroad last year, which is an all-time record, reports Statistics Finland. Finland gained over 26,050 new inhabitants in 2007, that is, 3,600 persons more than in 2006. The influx of immigrants is the highest during Finnish independence, according to Statistics Finland. Emigration from Finland was also up, with 12,450 persons moving abroad. Since the year 2000, immigration into Finland from other EU countries has outnumbered emigration from Finland to EU states. In 2007, some 4,400 European Union nationals made Finland their new home. Within Finland, the Pirkanmaa and Uusimaa regions attracted the most new inhabitants. YLE
