Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb says he's cautiously optimistic on conciliation in the Georgian crisis, following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

In his capacity as the current President of the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe, Stubb will present the organisation's view on resolving the Georgian crisis to the United Nations Security Council on Friday. Stubb says slight progress has been achieved on the issue of deployment of OSCE observers to South Ossetia.

Stubb is in New York for the opening week of the 63rd Session of the UN General Assembly.
