Fewer Christmas Visitors to Lapland Due to Bank Crisis

The number of people visiting Lapland next Christmas could be down by as many as 30,000.

In an interview given to the paper Lapin Kansa, the CEO of Lapland Safaris, Jyrki Niva anticipates a disappointing Christmas season for tourism in Lapland.

Niva blames the current international financial crisis, which, he says, has made people more reluctant to travel. The number of day trippers to Lapland has also declined and Niva says fresh alternatives such as summer holidays are needed to boost travel to the region.
