Voter Confusion Results in Uncounted Electronic Votes

A total of 232 electronic votes were not registered in this year's local elections. According to the Ministry of Justice, voters may have failed to lock in their vote.
Officials say they believe some voters may have failed to press the OK button after selecting a candidate. Unbeknownst to those voters, the entire process was likely suspended and the electronic vote not counted.
Jussi Aaltonen of the Justice Ministry said the number of discarded electronic votes is quite high. He said far fewer traditional votes were rejected.
However, for the most part the new system was given the thumbs up.
"Election officials have told us that voters were very pleased with the electronic voting system. That can also be seen by the high number of electronic votes cast," said Aaltonen.
Over 12,000 people cast their vote electronically in the local elections. The programme was on trial in the municipalities of Vihti, Kauniainen and Karkkila.
