The Helsinki District Court on Tuesday dismissed Johanna Korhonen’s demands for 230,000 euros in damages from the daily Lapin Kansa for a firing she claims was illegal.
Korhonen became involved in a dispute with the paper after she says she was wrongfully dismissed from her post.
Korhonen alleges that she was let go from the editor’s position because she was in a same-sex relationship. The newspaper has denied the allegations, and its counter-claim is that it lost confidence in Korhonen when she lied to her employer.
Korhonen was ordered to foot Alma Media’s 8,000 euro legal costs.
She expressed shock at the verdict and said that neither she nor her lawyer expected the decision to go against her and that she now plans to file an appeal in the case to a higher court.
