Be prepared to wait, say airport authorities.

The summer holiday season is likely to create longer-than-usual lines at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, especially this weekend. Officials warn that it may take up to two hours to clear check-in and security procedures during peak times.

The first weekend in July is typically the most crowded at Finnish airports. Airlines require check-in to be complete 45 minutes before take-off, but during summer weekends this will probably not be enough time.

Peak times are Friday and Saturday after 4 pm.

Finnair believes that there are slightly more passengers going through Helsinki-Vantaa airport than the airport can actually accommodate. Nonetheless, the company says things are running smoothly, and is encouraging people to use online check-in services to cut down on queues at the airport.
