Finnish-based mobile phone giant Nokia is suing the Apple corporation in the United States for patent violations.

Nokia announced on Thursday that it has filed a complaint against Apple with the Federal District Court in Delaware, alleging that Apple's iPhone infringes Nokia patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards.

The company says that the patents cover wireless data, speech coding, security and encryption and are infringed by all Apple iPhone models shipped since the iPhone was introduced in 2007.

In its press release, Nokia says that during the last two decades, it has invested approximately 40 billion euros in research and development.
