The forest sector has fallen to third place on the national industrial barometer. Sales in the chemical branch now exceed those of the forest industry. Clearly topping the list is the metal industry, which also includes the lucrative technological sector.
According to figures released by Statistics Finland, the production sales value of Finnish industry was estimated at almost 100 billion euros last year. Of this, the metal industry accounted for almost 50 billion euros, the chemical sector 18 billion euros and the forest industry 17 billion euros.
No change in total production sales value has taken place in the previous year. However, individual sectors have changed, with both the metal and chemical industries increasing their share by about one billion euros each. For its part, forest industry sales were down by around 1.5 billion euros.
Also in decline were the foodstuffs, mining and clothing sectors.
