The legendary rock band Eppu Normaali from the city of Tampere is one of this year's recipients of the Finland Prize awarded by the state. Judges said the group's music fits the national psyche perfectly.

During its career, Eppu Normaali has sold over 1.5 million records. Formed in 1976, the band’s unique style has never been imitated.

Others receiving the Finland Prize included artists Osmo Rauhala and Kuutti Lavonen for their church portraits as well as the modern Circo Aereo circus troupe.

The Finland Prize has been awarded since 1993 in appreciation of creative artistic work and in recognition of an outstanding artistic career, an important achievement or a promising breakthrough.

The Finland Prize is a cash award of 30,500 euros.
