The use of foreign labour at construction sites has declined, says the Confederation of Finnish Construction Industries (RT).

It says that 9.4 percent of workers at construction sites nationally are foreigners, down from 10 percent last year.

In the Uusimaa district, which includes Helsinki, they make up 18 percent of labourers, compared with 19 percent last year.

Among subcontractors, the figures are now 14 percent nationally and 22 percent in Uusimaa.

The figures come from a survey it carried out among 226 companies in the construction business. Altogether these firms have 1,716 building projects underway.
