Norovirus Spreading Nationwide
Careful hygiene measures help slow the spread of the Norovirus.

An outbreak of Norovirus, which causes powerful stomach symptoms, has been spreading around Finland for the past two years.
According to Merja Roivainen of the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), the disease is hard to stop, as three different types of virus are involved.
“During the past couple of years, the Norovirus has caused serious epidemics inside institutions. To stop the disease, careful disinfection is needed,” Roivainen says.
The virus causes symptoms including nausea, diarrhoea, and possibly fever.
The newest strain of the virus arrived in Finland in December, and has been detected in a number of cities.
