The government decided on Thursday to formally back a proposal to construct two more commercial nuclear reactors. Green League ministers, Labour Minister Anni Sinnemäki and Justice Minister Tuija Brax, voted against the plan.

The plan had been originally presented by Minister of Economic Affairs Mauri Pekkarinen.

The proposal grants licences to the energy firms Fennovoima and TVO. Energy company Fortum was not granted a licence in the proposal.

Parliament could begin discussing the matter next week. MPs may reach a decision before the Midsummer holiday in June.

The Greens have voiced opposition to the construction of more nuclear reactors. They have vowed to try to topple the bill in Parliament.
